The ubiquitous dual role, nay, triple role Beech Duchess—Multi Engine Trainer, typical first privately owned twin and, last but not least, a cross-channel business tool. Let me explain a little about each.

As a trainer, the Duchess makes an easy conversion for the low time single engine pilot who wants to expand his or her skills. It is also often the aircraft of choice for pro-training schools who use them for Instrument Rating platforms where they are cheaper to operate than the six seat equivalents.

As a private steed, they make ideal first-time twins for people who want to spread their wings, either just to boost their range of skills or to have a degree of safety over the water to France or the Channel islands, or beyond, usually with a precious loved-one on board.

Like the private owner, used as a business tool, the Duchess suits the international travelling business person who needs to travel to near-Europe or the Channel Islands, does not need more than a 4-seater and wants to give him or herself and their passengers that ’warm’ feeling of the aircraft having two engines.

Those engines are 2 x 180HP Lycoming O-360’s and, depending on how you set the power, will cruise the aircraft at around 150-160 Knots burning a total of between 17 and 20 USG/Hr.

On the sales spec sheet [ here] you will see the aircraft  is IFR equipped and, of course, has a Garmin GNS430 [where would we be without one?].

Viewing will be at Bournemouth Airport, UK (ICAO Code EGHH).
